Battle McCarthy’s R & D department is developing new ways to make the built environment more efficient and sustainable for economic, social & environmental reasons. We feel that it is important to be innovative and explore new discoveries in a commercial arena to prepare the construction industries for an uptake in the mass markets. Current R & D projects that Battle McCarthy is working on include:
- MUSEUMS - Energy efficiency & sustainability in retro-fitted and new museum buildings (European Commission)
- Sustainable Towers - an exploratory study on the benefits in today's context (UK Department of Trade and Industry)
- ZEN - Zero emission neighbourhoods (European Commission)
Some of the recent R & D projects that Battle McCarthy completed include:
- The use of steel wire mesh as protective blast screens behind glazed structures
- Double skin façade technologies
- Wind tower design guide
Battle McCarthy has also been consistently researching various projects internally as they coincide with work with various Clients.
