Landscape Architecture

Unilever International Management Training HQ, Kingston-Upon-Thames

The International Training Centre site lies 2.5km to the east of Kingston-upon Thames and approximately 800m to the south of Richmond park, within the private estate of Coombe Warren.

The Client’s main objectives were to:

Maintain and enhance the unique location and character of
Four Acres.
Recognise and respond to the sensitivity of the residential area
within which it is located.
Maintain the character of the existing grounds and house, which
is noted as being of Townscape Merit.
Maintain as many existing trees and recognise that the existing
Lime Trees must be retained and will determine the positioning
of new buildings and infrastructure.
Provide appropriate delivery and car parking areas, with
minimum access to the main entrance area/courtyard and
turning circle, which is to be maintained as a pedestrian zone.

The main objectives of the design strategy are:

Minimise the impact of the development on the existing landscape.
Respond sensitively to the residential area within which the site is located.
Retain and enhance existing areas of landscape and visual importance.
Develop a more diverse ecology.
'Tell a Story' about the recycling of water through the building services and the landscape design.
