The International Training Centre site
lies 2.5km to the east of Kingston-upon Thames and approximately
800m to the south of Richmond park, within the private
estate of Coombe Warren.
The Client’s main objectives were
to:

Maintain and enhance the unique
location and character of
Four Acres. |
| • |
Recognise and respond to the sensitivity
of the residential area
within which it is located. |
| • |
Maintain the character of the existing
grounds and house, which
is noted as being of Townscape Merit. |
| • |
Maintain as many existing trees
and recognise that the existing
Lime Trees must be retained and will determine the
positioning
of new buildings and infrastructure. |
| • |
Provide appropriate delivery and
car parking areas, with
minimum access to the main entrance area/courtyard
and
turning circle, which is to be maintained as a pedestrian
zone. |
The main objectives of the design strategy
are:

Minimise the impact of the development
on the existing landscape. |
| • |
Respond sensitively to the residential
area within which the site is located. |
| • |
Retain and enhance existing areas
of landscape and visual importance. |
| • |
Develop a more diverse ecology. |
| • |
'Tell a Story' about the recycling
of water through the building services and the landscape
design. |
