The Alnwick Gardens Visitors Centre was designed to capture the positive climatic forces of daylight, ventilation and passive solar gain whilst minimising the impact on the site. Waste generation control, water conservation and recycling are incorporated into the design.

The building is a reinterpretation of the former tomato pavilion at the entrance to the Gardens.
