Battle McCarthy
wins Building Services
International Achievement Award 2004
Battle
McCarthy are delighted to receive the Building Services
Award for International Achievement 2004. It follows in
the wake of a handful of prizes in the last two MIPIM awards
shows for both UK and overseas projects. The firm is involved
in a number of high profile projects across Europe, Asia
and North America integrating innovative sustainable design
and renewable energy solutions.
The
design solution for the Freedom Tower in New York, part
of the Ground Zero redevelopment, incorporates the world’s
first urban vertical wind farm, initiated by Battle McCarthy
as part of the environmental and concept M&E design.
Also in New York City, the New York Jets Sports and Convention
Center, the centerpiece of New York’s 2012 Olympic
bid and MIPIM winner, mixes rooftop wind turbines with solar
panels and rainwater harvesting to minimise grid demands.
Other
key international projects coming to fruition include; the
headquarters for Malaysia’s national bank in Kuala
Lumpur; a new university complex in Luanda, Angola; the
Ontario College of Art and Design; an opera house in Dallas;
headquarters for Spain’s national power corporation,
Endesa at Madrid; and low-energy, high quality international
offices in Prague. All incorporate the company’s ethos
of low energy design, appropriate application of technologies,
materials and environmental control.
Back
in the United Kingdom the practice has recently completed
two buildings achieving an EXCELLENT BREEAM rating; the
new Home Office buildings in London and a headquarters for
Scottish Gas in Edinburgh. Also nearing completion in west
Bromich is THEpUBLIC arts centre.
Battle
McCarthy is a also key player in the new Carbon Trading
Market, managing allocations for major developers and UK
universities
